My good friends favorite saying is “What you focus on you give more of.” This was in the context of helping students with behavior issues focus on making good choices and staying positive.
I think that when we put our focus on what we can learn and get from focusing on the Lord we will get so much back in return. Last year, I was looking for ways to improve my mental health. I that of what I focused on I would get more of. So I decided on a character flaw I had or a character trait I wanted to work on and I would research what the bible said about that trait.
The trait that I focused on that had the biggest impact was contentment. I was always thinking about the next thing I wanted. I spent little time appreciating the moment or what I had. I now try to focus on things I am thankful for and enjoying the moment I am in.
Matthew 6:25-26
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
